2019 Indiana Holstein Honorary Lifetime Member
Keith Meyer
It is with mixed emotions that we announce our 2019 Honorary Lifetime Member, Keith Meyer. Several Indiana Holstein Association members gathered at the end of December as a surpise to present Keith with this distinction. Years ago, he was the man who was known for getting all the cattle ready and managed the crews for many national sales and all of the state, district, and county sales in Indiana, as well as the surrounding states. He mentored numerous young men who became known for their clipping and fitting. It is with sadness that we share that he passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019. We are so grateful that we had the opportunity to present him with this award and share some time with him and his family. He was honored and filled with joy to receive this award. Please keep the Meyer family in your thoughts and prayers. Photo credit:Mallarie Matlock

2017 Indiana Holstein Hoosier Sweepstakes
Thanks to generous donations from Lortie Livestock, Bob Osborn, and Long-Life Replacements, the Indiana Holstein Association will have it's first ever sweepstakes drawing during the 2017 Indiana Holstein State Show. What is the sweepstakes? The names of the heifer classes (no group classes) will be placed into a bucket and then one class will be drawn out. Then the number of animals that showed in the class that was drawn out will be placed into the bucket. Whichever heifer placed the same as the number drawn will be the lucky winner of $500. The same will happen for the cow classes (no group classes), and the winner will go home with $1,000. It will be a totally random drawing. It could be a first place animal, middle of the class animal, or even the last place animal in the class. So make plans to show at the 2017 Indiana State Holstein Show.

Irvin "Grubby" Myers Obituary - from Dairy Agenda Today
Irvin "Grubby" Myers died on Saturday, September 3rd. He was 88 years old. He was born in Fithian, Illinois. Jersey cows took him to countless county fairs in Illinois where he met his wife Carol, a Guernsey girl from Highland. Jersey's also took him to Texas and Louisiana in the 50's, brought him to Delavan,Wisconsin in the 60's, where he was the farm manager for then State Senator George W. Borg at Borg Farms. In the 70's and 80's he enjoyed leading cows for Howard Binder in Colorado, working for Tom and Linda Pearson of Pearmont and R.Dale Jones in Wisconsin. In the 90's he worked at Stookey Holsteins and his last professional position was working at Em Tran in Elizabethtown, PA with Dr. Alan McCauley and Steve Mower.
50 years ago Allen Hetts included him in the first World Dairy Expo Show Committee. "Grubby" judged county and state fairs all over the United States and worked many private and public auctions. He was a licensed auctioneer, the first cow he sold was the very last cow at the Piper Farms Dispersal in Illinois.
There are countless unnamed people connected to all breeds of cattle that he worked for and with over his lifetime throughout the United States and Canada. Very few people knew the name "Irvin" Myers was but many will remember "Grubby" and his cigar.
He is survived by his wife Carol, who lives in Plymouth, IN, his daughter Kim and son in law Steve Christman (Rosewood) who live in New Paris, IN.
